August 2014 Income/Expenses

August 2014 Income/Expenses

It’s payday tomorrow which means time for the monthly report! This is my 2nd monthly report and so the first chance I’ve had to actually calculate any differences.

Another awesome month and I’ve been working hard to build relationships with others online on a similar journey as me. A big shout out to all of my regular readers, especially those who have taken the time to comment and share their views on the articles. A special thanks to Wade, Jason, Kraig, Sam, Ermine, Weenie, MFF, BigGuy, FireStarter and countless others for sharing your thoughts and support.

Google Analytics tells me we’ve had over 3,000 page views from almost 600 users, a doubling from last month!

On to the report:

Several readers contacted me and recommended I did include  pension contributions as income as it does form part of my pay package and adds to net worth so I’ll be including them from now on.

Income

Salary: £1977.82

Lottery Winnings: £25

Online Surveys: £6

Pension Contributions: £424.79

Total: £2433.61 (-6.21%)

Despite the mathematical  unlikelihood of having a positive return on the lottery, I still play it as a form of relatively cheap entertainment and the only form of gambling I do. It’s always nice to see a small win though. Slight reduction in salary due to lack of overtime available.

Expenses

Mortgage/Bills: £700

Groceries: £270.40

Petrol (Gas):  £21.50

Maintainance/DIY: 76.94

Eating out: £10.38

Healthcare: £37.18

Entertainment: £36.30

Other: £20

Total: £1172.70 (-14.45%)

An awesome reduction in Expenses mostly from a 20% reduction in grocery spending! That’s pretty damn good but we could probably get it down even further. High expenses in the Maintainance due to a new tyre for my motorbike (First tyre change in 3 years) and healthcare for the 2nd part of dental treatment. A savings difference of £1260.91 which is 52%.

Networth

House Equity*:  £24,009.18

Cash in bank: £3360.57

ISA Investments: £3089

Pension: £15,200.39

Total Networth: £45,659.14 (+4.67%)

A total netwoth increase of £2119.93, or 4.67% for this month which I’m really pleased about. It’s still only a small amount compared to many people out there but will hopefully continue to grow nicely.

Calculated as: (21,500 deposit + 1330 overpayments) + ((215,000 - deposit - overpayment) - 189,811.65  remaining)/2

  1. A gain of over 4.5% in Net Worth for the month. Super progress. A savings rate of 50% will certainly have long range positive impacts. FI is on the horizon. Thanks for sharing!
