August 2016 Income/Expenses

August 2016 Income/Expenses

It was payday on Thursday so we are late for the Income/Expenses!

August was a really quiet month for me. I worked the 9-5, bet in the evenings and didn’t really do a whole lot else. We go the first part of our Honeymoon booked which will be 3 weeks in Orlando in April/May. Originally we were going to do an epic 2 month trip across the states including 3 weeks in Florida however it worked out much cheaper to do the Florida section as a separate package holiday then do the rest as individual components. We went to Orlando a few years ago on a last-minute mega cheap deal for a couple of weeks and had an awesome time so we are hoping to emulate that but with a bit more cash to spend so we’re not wasting hours on public transport like we did last time!

From Matched Betting I made £1828.88 in august. Football has started again and I’ve started doing some of the in-shop offers. Both of these have helped to boost the matched betting income for last month and saw me pass the £15,000 mark for total betting profits!. I go into more of the specifics about the offers and tactics im using over on the MBG blog. As always; if you have any questions I’m more than happy to help out, just drop me an email or leave a comment over at MatchedBettingGuy.com

Well, it was only a matter of time before Amazon finally lowered the axe. I knew it was coming and I knew last month would be the last mega payment from them. Still; there was a trickle still coming in and so in August I made £355.15 from Kindle.

I’ve also started building up an affiliate income stream from the Matched Betting guide sites I recommend. I personally use a couple of guide sites and truly believe they are well worth the investment. Affiliate income for the month of July was £270.01.

Finally I still do the occasional survey when I have a free 5 minutes. These paid out for me last month and I made a massive £21 from them ;)

On to the report:

Income

Salary: £1,913.63

Pension Contributions: £600

Matched Betting: £1,828.88

Pension 2: £10,552.62

Pension 3: £591.43

Total Networth: £103,995 (+6.3%)

Boom! Hit 6 figures at last! What an awesome feeling to finally pass this benchmark and look forward to the passing the 7 figure mark. Income dropped this month due to Amazon killing the publisher tactic many of us were using. With matched betting and affiliate income I’m still a long way above what I was making this time last year when the focus was on cutting costs instead of increasing income. I also passed the 2 year mark for this blog which means I’ll need to get round to doing my annual totals… however the trajectory is pretty cool to see:

July 2014 Networth: £43,539.21

July 2015 Networth: £60,317.41 (+16.7k)

July 2016 Networth: £97,813.47 (+37.5k)

Onwards and upwards.

  1. Hi Guy,
Major congratulations on breaking the 6 figure barrier – a great feeling and reminds you why this is doing – it will start to get quicker with the investment returns. I remember reading the wise advice that “The first 100k is the hardest” and it resonates – it does tick up gradually quicker and quicker.

Congratulations on the matched betting that is a huge result, keep it up, and as always I am impressed (and, envious!) of your savings rate – sadly my mortgage / bills makes that rate practically impossible for me.

Keep it up and as always thanks for sharing – good luck for the wedding and honeymoon planning!

  2. Hey Guy

Congratulations on your two year blog anniversary, breaking the 6 figure barrier and also surpassing the £15k matched betting mark – wow, absolutely awesome work there!

Shame about the Amazon restrictions but this was something you had anticipated and £355, whilst not as high as you would have hoped, is certainly not to be sniffed at.

Your side hustles alone will make massive inroads towards increasing your net worth!

    1. Thank you Weenie. I’m most impressed with the 15k from matched betting as its been less than a year and I remember being so impressed hearing how my friend made £300 a month from it.. now im smashing past that within the first week fo each month!

It is a shame about Amazon but totally expected. I’m hoping Huw gets his course finished soon and then I may have another shot at it.

  3. Hi Guy

Been following your blog for a while, but can I be nosey and ask how you got the basics so low:

    Mortgage/Bills: £748

Can you expand on this, my rent alone is £1350 and I reckon inclusive of bills rises by another £200-400 when including council tax, utilities, water etc.

    Cheers,

    J

    1. Hi James,

All of my figures are my half of the bills + my own personal expenses. My partner and I split the costs of most household expenses 50-50 so £748 for mortgage/bill can be doubled to give our overall household expenses. She also earns similar to me in basic salary + a few side hustles so our overall household income would also roughly double.

    2. A simpler answer is surely that James lives in South East England or perhaps even a flat in London whereas Guy lives somewhere in the South West?

Either that or James is chinning the full cost of a 4 bedroom house and letting his wife (and kids) get away with living there Scott free? :D

  4. Congrats on two years! 58% savings rate is pretty fantastic. Splitting bills with your partner definitely helps when it comes to reducing overall expenses.

  5. +£37.5K in a year, that is bloody good going mate! And while saving for a wedding and honeymoon.

The road trip sounds fantastic, me and the Mrs drove from NYC to LA a few years back and it was just amazing. Get off the beaten track and see some of real America, there are some cool little places dotted around as well as some really weird ones as well. All worth seeing and expanding your horizons and all that!

  6. This is awesome Guy (long-term reader, 1st time commenting here).

Incredibly impressive and I love your matched betting site as well.

You don’t need to go to work given your other sources of income – in a sense you are financially independent (though I guess there is a risk of matched betting drying up – though it hasn’t happened yet…)

QQ – how much time do you spend on your blogs and on matched betting?

Brilliant – and I would add you can do matched betting/affiliate income from anywhere – Malta during the Northern winter for example.

    Well played sir.

    1. Thank you Massive, good to hear from you.

You’re right; I could quit today however I’m not sure how long MB will remain profitable for and I haven’t really been doing it long enough to be certain enough yet. I’m trying to diversify into other income streams like affiliates by expanding the http://www.matchedbettingguy.com site.

To answer your questions.. Not enough & too much! I need to spend more time on the blogs and less time chasing small-profit betting offers.

  7. True.

Though with a savings rate of 3k a month and 150k to go to your 250k goal I guess you’ve only got 4 years left regardless! An extra year if your goal is 250k on top of your house equity.

    Pretty amazing!

    Massive
